I spent several hours on Saturday getting House #2 all ready for the tenant to move in this Friday. The backyard hadn't been touched since ... since ... last October - (I think). It actually had a foot of oaks leaves against the back stair case that had been there since who knows when. So, I mowed the lawn, trimmed the banana trees, trimmed some tree branches, weed eated, and so on. After a few hours, it looked a lot better. I ended up having 10 lawn bags filled to the top, which I'll have to set out for the trash people.
I also wanted to reset the security alarm and garage door codes. The security alarm was a snap, but I had difficulty with the garage door. It said I could create a second PIN, but everything I tried didn't work. And then in the process, I lost my original code. So I sat and fiddled with it some more and finally got it to work. I had flushed the water heater the weekend before (something I suggest EVERYONE do AT LEAST once every 1-2 years as it can greatly increase it's life span), but checked it again to make sure it was working good. I also filled the water softener, and made sure the fridge was both cold and producing ice. Everything checked out.
I then did a final sweep (literally) of the house and left. I plan to meet the tenant at the house on Friday morning before I go to work to give them the keys. I also want to go over some things, like the security/garage codes, water softener, etc. It felt really odd when I left the house this time as 10 yrs of memories rushed to my head. My wife wants to eventually keep it as a "retirement" home later (once all the kids have left the nest). We'll see.
