I was about the width of a human hair away from going to Lowes last night to pick up an automatic garage door opener (AGDO) for House #1, but decided against it. I may install one later (especially if the renters howl and scream about it), but for now I think I'll just get the lockset for the garage door and be done with it. I priced some AGDO models at Lowes and Home Depot, and the cheapest was $129, however, that was for a belt driven model. If I were going to get one, I'd get the screw drive type. The cheapest one of those was $155 at Lowes.
What changed my mind was I started thinking of the places I and other family members have rented in the past that had AGDO's. I can only recall one. Most of the time, we used the garage as a giant storage anyway, so it wasn't utilized on a daily basis to store our vehicles. I priced the lockset at Lowes, and it runs around $18, so I'll save ~$140. Again, if the tenants make a big fuss about it, I'll see what I can do.

If it's any consolation, I don't even have one on my personal residence and most of the time we leave it unlocked. They're only going to be there for 6 months. It shouldn't be a big deal.
Yeah, I think this is the best way to go. Now I have to see what kind of lockset to get. I see them on HD for <$10, but I may need a specific kind. Thanks!
