I posted over at the Live, Learn, Invest blog about my dealings with some agents, and sure enough, I got bitten again. First, I want to say that NOT ALL agents are incompetent - there are many who go above and beyond their fiduciary responsibilities. Unfortunately, I either seem to pick from the other batch, and/or those "above and beyond" agents are few and far between in this industry.
Before leaving for work this monring, my wife asked me to call the title company to see how long it would take us to close. With a 4yr old and twin 16 mo. olds, scheduling is the utmost importance as is the time involved just "sitting around". So, I called the title company and asked our closing agent's assistant how long it would take to close on our property. She asked me when we were scheduled to close, and I told her the date and time. Keep in mind, my calling was to ask just how long it would take as my agent had asked me a time we would like to close LAST week. The lady gets back on the phone and says she has nothing scheduled for me at that time (but does say the buyer is closing that day a couple hours later). HUH?!?! Great! Here I am thinking all along the agent had this scheduled last week. The lady first asked if I wanted to close with the Buyer, which I rejected. She then said the time I wanted was already taken, but there was a slot 30 mins later. I took it.
I can only imagine what would have occurred if I didn't call this morning.
