I'm really a little beside myself regarding two service providers who just don't seem to have their act together. The first is my mrtgage broker's office. Without rehashing events too much up to this point, I'll just go over what has occurred this week. On Monday, I get a call from the underwriter saying things are set to close for Wednesday. I tell her that Tue/Wed/Thu are all out of the question, because I have an executive at work those days that will have me there all day long, and that Friday afternoon would be the only time period I could close. She says no problem. Tuesday, I get a call from the mortgage lender requesting verification of employment. Huh? Okay, I handle that fire. Also on that day, I send the underwriter an email asking her (1) if she's confirmed a closing time on Friday, (2) if she has any idea how much we need to bring (if anything), and (3) if my wife needs to be there to sign anything, since the loan is in my name only. Wednesday - nothing, so I send the underwriter another email. Thursday - still no word, so I call my broker's office. The receptionist answers, I tell her my name, and ask to speak to the underwriter. The receptionist tells me they are waiting on the title company to send them the closing paperwork. I told her the underwriter called me Monday to say everything was done and we could close this past Wednesday. She says they still haven't gotten the paperwork yet, but should get it today (Thursday) or tomorrow. I tell her I am scheduled to close tomorrow! She had a loss of words, and only said that I could still close tomorrow, but only if they get the paperwork today. So I told her to call my wife at home, if they get any word today as I'll be stuck in meetings all afternoon.
ARGH!!!!!! Take a deep breath.
The second service provider is the property management group that handles the HOA for House #1. Last Wednesday, I received a call from my tenant saying they went to the community pool, but they needed a pool key to get in. I told her I'd get with the PM company and let her know when I get the key. So I call the PM company and they said they'll send me a key. The PM company is located in south Austin, so I figure 1-2, maybe 3, days to send it via snail mail. Monday comes, and still nothing. So, I call the PM company back and talk to the same lady. Turns out she sent the key to House #1 and not my personal residence, and verified she did send it out the day I requested it. Okay, no big sweat. So I call the tenant, and she says they haven't received the key in the mail yet. She tells me she'll monitor the mail the next couple of days and let me know one if she got it or not. I expected the tenant to call me on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I haven't gotten any call. Not sure if she received it or not.
ARGH!!!!!! Take a deep breath.

hehe.. Welcome to the world of landlording :-)
Actually, I think your expeience with the title company is typical. They never seem to get everything together until the day before or the day of closing.
That's true, Steve. Don't panic! Just calm down. It'll work out fine. It's good that you called to check up on things. That lets them know you're paying attention. But, you can relax now and go with the flow. Just provide them with whatever they need to get it wrapped up.
Update:
My tenant called me when I got home on Thursday to say she never received the key yet (big surprise). So, I called the PM company and told them it's been 8 days since they supposedly mailed out the key and my tenants have still not received them. She had the nerve to ask me to wait one more day. I told her it's not like the place is located across the country - it's less than 30 miles away from their office - so it shouldn't take over a week to get there. I told her to send me another key NOW to MY address and have it expedited. She said she'd send it, but she isn't be allowed to expedite it. #!$%&*@$#%@ !!!!!!!!
I might - just might - take a trip over to their office after work today and have some words with them. They should have had this taken care of when I first called them back in early MAY.
Take a deep breath.
