Like the weekend before, I got up this past Saturday around 5am and put out some bandit signs. Right before I was putting the second sign up, I took a look at my cell phone and noticed I had gotten a call already. Unfortunately, they didn't leave a message, though. Last night, I was in the backyard bar-b-que'ing when I received the second call. I came in shortly afterward and noticed "1 Missed Call" on my cell phone. Again, the person failed to leave a message. What was strange about the second call was it was from a suburb of Dallas - strange. And that was it. No other calls, and -0- messages. I left for work about 15 mins. early today (Monday) to pick up the signs, and only one was missing. The two that were in great spots were still up, so I guess it was just a bad weekend.
Other than the bandit signs, the only things I did related to REI this past weekend were reading through a couple of REI books. I spent most of the weekend doing household-related work and spending time with family.
One of the books I read was Gary Keller's The Millionaire Real Estate Investor. I commented on this book in an earlier blog entry, but I'll regurgitate some of what I said. IMHO, it's an excellent book to set your mind in the right frame for REI. It's also a good reference book to come back to once you've started REI. It doesn't tell you how to do a rehab or a wholesale flip - it's not that kind of REI book. Instead the author interviewed a LOT of established REI's to get input on how they started, what they feel is most important, and how they stay on top of the game. He rolled all their feedback into a very well written book that focuses more on the business aspects of REI. I HIGHLY recommend this book for novices and experienced REI's alike. I received mine free from my RE agent when we closed on House #1.
The second book is a course I bought a few weeks back called The Utlimate Sub2 Guidebook by noted Sub2 expert William Tingle. Of all the technical "how-to" references I've read, this course is the most in-depth and best "step-by-step" manual on how to accomplish subject-to deals. William really goes into details on what an investor needs to do every step of the way during a Sub2 deal. I can't comment on other Sub2 courses, but I would HIGHLY recommend his course for anyone thinking about doing a Sub2 deal in the future.
