Trying to find out more about Section 8 has got me going down an interesting path.
If you recall, I've said on here many times that the town House #1 is located in has NO multifamily properties from what I could tell at all. This instantly piqued my curiosity as the little town seems to be growing a bit. I did some research online yesterday, and could not find any information on a housing authority for the town. Nearby towns each have one, but they also have more population. I figured the next best thing to do is to call the city offices. So, I called the chamber of commerce, and the lady supported my findings: the city has no multifamily housing and has no housing authority. She was almost certain this was fact, but gave me a number for the planning department. I then called the planning dept. and got their voicemail. :-/
I find this a little strange, but maybe it shouldn't be. The little town has about 10-15 SFR subdivisions, with the majority being erected in the last few years. There are also retail chains moving in as well as a new state highway. It just fathoms me that the city has no support for low-income housing yet. This definately smells like an opportunity - especially for someone with deep pockets. I guess my next call will be to the mayor's office to get more info. It could very well be it's been discussed and is still in the planning stages. I'd be flabbergasted if it wasn't, to be honest. Hopefully, this will pave the way for more multifamily development in the area. Of course, my initial reason for doing this was to find out about Section 8 in the area in case I go down that path for House #1.

Very big, if you ask me! Unfortunately, land prices have skyrocketed in the area, so it's hard to even buy an empty lot these days. BTW, I've tried calling the city's planning dept a few times now, and keep getting their voicemail. I think that alone tells me my efforts are futile (for now).
