Outside of watching one of the best games in college football Saturday night (UT vs. OSU), I had an uneventful weekend. I decided to sleep in on Saturday for a change. That meant no bandit signs, which translated into no phone calls. Oh well, I was busy with a miriad of other things, so this may have been good. In preparation for my in-laws moving in, we went to look at some storage places. What I found really surprising is that nearly ALL of the storage places are full. I heard once that two of the best businesses to get into are car washes and off-site storage facilities. Now I see why. My wife talked to the manager of one company, and they said they are expanding out to my area, because business is so hot. I wish I knew a lot more about how to get into new development as there is a lot of land out past my way that I could buy and start a storage business. I did take somewhat of an initiative, and started writing down phone numbers on "Land For Sale" signs. I've done this before, and most of the land now has skyrocketed in price (especially along popular routes). What I may do is look for land slightly more off the beaten path, and see what I can do.
I stopped by the company that manages the HOA where House #1 is located on Friday to get a copy of the deed restrictions. The lday there said I would have to request it from the main office and they would charge me $35. WTH?!?! I decided to just make a copy form the one I already have at home. I put that, along with a cover letter, copies of the two infractions, and a form for the tenants to sign, in an envelope and dropped it off at the post office. While there, I laid a few of my biz cards out on some tables, so I guess I did manage to do some marketing over the weekend. :-)
On sunday, I had a few minutes of quiet time (note: anyone with kids younger than say 10 will tell you this is next to impossible). I used the time to sit down and go over some of my goals, methods, and such. I spent almost the whole time trying to figure out exactly what my criteria is for my venture. I still need to do a lot more soul-searching on what it is I want to accomplish and how, but my time was interrupted by my daughter waking up from her nap.
BTW, I saw tis article on CNN's web site, and thought how unfortunate events can change lives not only for the people directly affected, but by the chain reaction catastrophic events always yield.
