House #1 - Days 7, 8 and 9

Day 7
Today was the first day of painting. My FIL got to the house early, and I joined him as quick as I could after work. He left around 5:30pm and I stayed til about 7:00pm. He managed to get the breakfast and outer kitchen walls painted (two coats), and I painted the first coat in the dining and family rooms. I also painted the ceiling in the dinaing, family, and breakfast rooms.

Day 8
Today was "install water heater" and "honey-do" day, so I didn't even get to make a trip to the property. The water heater installation was insteresting as I have never done it before. The actual process of removing the old one and installing the new one took about an hour, but testing the water beforehand, convincing my wife it WAS the water heater, and making the trip to Home Depot to get it took several hours. The good news is that we had no problems and now have clean water again. The bad news is I took off an entire day from the property (which I more than made up for the following day). My wife also had me doing some garage clean-up duties that took the remainder of the day to complete.

Day 9
What a l-o-n-g tiring day. I woke up at 6:00am and was flip-flopping between going back to sleep and getting up to start on the property. I figured since I neglected it on Saturday, I had better do as much as I could on sunday. So, I got up, got dressed, made some coffee, and headed to the property. By the time I unloaded the car and got the place prepped for painting, it was about 7:00am. I managed to get a second coat on everything I did on Friday. I was starting to prep the secondary bedrooms when my in-laws arrived. We chatted a bit, and my MIL went to see my wife and my FIL stayed to help me. We both stayed there until almost 6:00pm. Except for about a 20 min lunch break, we were both non-stop. He concentrated on the kitchen, and I painted both secondary bedrooms, the mini-hall, the entry, and the main hall (and the ceilings of all). We put two coats on everything except the mini-hall, entry, and main hall. All we have left is a second coat on the halls, paint the master, and paint the office/nursery, and we'll be done. For now, I've decided to forgo painting the closets and bathrooms. They are in good shape, and we'll just have enough paint, I believe, for the things I NEED to do. If we get done before Wed, and have left-over paint, I MIGHT start on one or both bathrooms, but I'm not counting on it.

When my MIL was there, I coaxed her into trying to talk my wife into L/O'ing the place. She said she would definately try, since she now understands the benefits of holding onto a property. Later that evening, when I got home, my wife asked if I had tried to get my MIL to sway her into renting the property. I told her 'no', and my wife said my MIL thought it was a bad idea. Hmmmmm. I doubt that's what my MIL said, so I'm assuming the plan fizzled. Rats.

Sounds to me like mom and daughter had a long talk also. Be careful your treading on thin Ice. I've been a son in law a long time. "Son In Law" Good luck, and keep up the hard work. You'll be depositing that check real soon.
