Closing Matters
Everything is about set for us to close tomorrow. I called the lady at the loan officer's place and asked if she had anymore status on the insurance fiasco, and if she has heard the final figure for settlement costs. She said the change in policy actually favord me by $20-$30. She said she didn't have the paperwork in front of her at the time, but recalled that my costs were actually lowered instead of raised. she also said she didn't have the final settlement figures from the title company yet, but would tell me as soon as she got them.
I also called my RE agent to see if she heard anything about the final settlement. She said she hadn't, and that it could very well be the very day we close before I find out. Huh!?!? I thought by law I was to be informed 24 hrs prior to closing? She said that I am supposed to, but sometimes it just happens that way. I guess the good news is I won't have to scarmble for more cash.
The "little" Things
I also got the paperwork from the water company. Their office is located about 15 miles away, so I'll call them today to see if I can at least get someone over there tomorrow to turn the water on. Hopefully, they can take my payment info over the phone, so I don't have to make a trip over there this afternoon. I called Lowes when I got home, too. The man said they charge $5 per cylinder to rekey locks. With six total cylinders that'll be $30 - which is $15 cheaper than the guy my agent referred me to. I still have to buy all the locks, which isn't looking too cheap (probably around $125-$150 total). Also, I got a response from my friend who said his cleaning machine is only for small things like upholstery, and not for carpet. Bah! Now I'll have to rent a steam machine from HEB or something - another $30-$40. I also learned my wife's mother may not be able to join us this weekend. She's one of those clean freaks, and I was hoping she would be able to play "maid" for me this weekend and do all the nit-picky cleaning stuff (like windows, showers, tubs, counters, and so on). Now it looks like more work for me. I'll need to stop by Walmart, too, and get the coach light and some materials. Plus, I have to order the microwave/vent hood. I was also thinking of buying some grass seed and revitalizer for the yard. From what I've heard, it will take 3-4 weeks before I start seeing results, but that may just be enough time. I beautiful green yard will definately attract more buyers than the drab brown stuff that's there now.
Geez - all this work still to do and this isn't even considered a rehab! ;-)

You do have 24 hours by law, but if they dont get it to you by closing that just means you can postpone the closing for 24 hours and they cant legally do anything about it.
Ya know, I get my settlement statements 2 out of 3 times right before I have to go to the closings! They always say "so-and-so still has yet to send over their doc's, so we don't have the settlement statement yet" or some such lame excuse. I didn't realize I had any legal rights to postpone the closing.
